The Ottoman Turks

Not this kind of Ottoman!

The early Ottoman conquests were in Europe. The Battle of Kosovo, Serbia was in 1389 AD. The Ottomans conquered the Slavs in 1400's, and Constantinople was conquered in 1453 (This was the fall of Byzantine Empire). Later, the Ottoman Turks conquered Balkans and Greeks. Eventually, they moved into Central Europe and reached Vienna. In 1517, they invaded Egypt and drove the Mamluks from power. Their influence was as far west as Algeria and as far north as Vienna. But then came a decline in the Ottoman Empire, and, in fact, it would come to be known as "The Sick Man of Europe". Power slowly waned, much like the way a sick man slowly dies. In the 18th century: long retreat from Balkan peninsula. In 1798: Napoleon drives them from Egypt. By 1914, little remained and the empire was dissolved.
