Saul and David: circa 1020 BC
Saul was appointed in approx. 1020 BC by a man named Samuel. Samuel was a prophet and political leader. He named Saul as the first king of the Israelites. Saul was a very successful military leader. When there was a falling out between Samuel and Saul, Samuel named a new leader--David (of "David and Goliath" fame). And David did win the adoration of the Israelites when he defeated Goliath, the Philistine giant. (The Philistines were a group of seamen who raided the area.)

Solomon: 1000-935 BC
Solomon was David’s son. He was the third king of the Israelites who allied with the Phoenicians to create a strong navy.
