a beast is born
Human time began about 40,000 years ago with the appearance of the Homo Sapiens Sapiens (that’s us!). At first, people lived off hunting, fishing, and gathering. They were known as hunter-gatherers. But around 8000 BC, a very important change occurred: people started cultivating crops in the Fertile Crescent. Soon they relied more and more on agriculture. They had domesticated animals. Some people were nomadic shepherds, called pastoralists. As agriculture developed a surplus, people were able to tend to specific jobs. A beast was born.
